Places for People has appointed groundworks contractors to a £246m framework covering 13 regional lots across England and Scotland. Coinford Central and RJ McLeod secured the widest spread of places, with each firm named on six lots.
M&J Evans Construction and Houlihan & Co each picked up four lots. Other appointed contractors include MV Kelly, Erith, Tamdown, O’Halloran & O’Brien and Chasetown Civil Engineering. The arrangement brings together multiple specialist groundworks and civil engineering firms across the regional packages.
The 13 lots cover the following areas:
- North West: Lancashire, Manchester and Merseyside
- Yorkshire: South and West Yorkshire
- Central West: West Midlands, Staffordshire and Warwickshire
- Central East: Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire
- South East: South Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex
- South East: East Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex
- South West: North Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire
- South West: South Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset
- South West: West Bristol, Devon and Somerset
- London: Greater London
- Scotland: Central Belt
- Scotland: North 1, Aberdeen area only
- Scotland: North 2, detailed area not specified
The published lot allocation sets out separate contractor groups for the regional packages. In the North West lot, the named firms are JLC Groundworks, John Reilly Civil Engineering, M&J Evans Construction, MV Kelly, RJ McLeod and Westshield. The South and West Yorkshire lot names ATD Civils & Groundworks, Erith Group, Hilliard Civil Engineering (Nottingham), M&J Evans Construction, Manvers Main Construction and RJ McLeod.
Greater London is the largest regional package at around £38m. The Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset package follows at £30m, while East Anglia and the northern Home Counties account for a further £29m.
Work covered
The work ranges from site clearance, bulk earthworks and foundations to drainage, utilities, roads, sewers and external works. Scottish packages also cover house foundations through to completed in-situ concrete floors, plot drainage, retaining wall foundations and ducting for electric vehicle infrastructure.
Several contractors appear in more than one regional lot. M&J Evans Construction and RJ McLeod are among those with repeat appointments, while Coinford Central and Houlihan & Co also feature across multiple lists.
The framework therefore combines a national value with region-specific contractor lists. Firms hold places in one area or across several, depending on the lots on which they have been named.
The framework covers both England and Scotland and separates work into regional packages with their own contractor lists. The named firms hold places on the framework, with the £246m value and 13-lot structure defining the scope of the arrangements.
